Flying By — Yellow moves through luminous yellow and weathered ochre, softened cream, smoky gray, and flashes of rust, coral, blue, and charcoal. Veiled passages meet denser fields of color as dark linear marks carry movement across the surface.

Ships rolled + unstretched. The size selected is the finished artwork size after stretching. Additional printed canvas is included around the artwork for stretching. Stretcher bars, frame, and hanging hardware are not included.

About the Work

Long dark lines travel across softened fragments and layered traces. Open, luminous passages sit beside areas of concentrated color, revealing more of the painting’s revisions at close range.

Complex Harmony

Shirley calls this complex harmony: difference, history, interruption, and beauty coexisting without becoming the same. Layers of color, marks, and revision leave some passages visible and partially bury others; what survives remains part of the story.
