Ceramic Coat

Ceramic Coat is the ceramic build stage of the Eco Forma System: Form → Dip → Image / Color → Ceramic Coat → Finish.

Made to build, refine, and unify the ceramic surface
Applied after Dip and image or color, Ceramic Coat develops a clear ceramic layer that softens small imperfections, unifies varied media, and gives the surface greater hardness and continuity without hiding the work beneath it.

Ceramic Coat is not a conventional sealer or final gloss. It is the substantive build layer that connects image and form while preparing the surface for Gloss Top Coat—or remaining visible when a quieter ceramic finish is desired.

What it does

  • Builds and unifies the ceramic surface in controlled layers
  • Softens minor ridges, transitions, and surface irregularities
  • Integrates compatible pigment, paint, drawing, transfer, and mixed media
  • Refines edges and vulnerable surface areas while preserving detail
  • Creates a hard, quiet ceramic surface or the foundation for Gloss Top Coat

How to use
Apply Ceramic Coat to a fully dry, prepared surface after Dip and any image or color work. Stir gently and apply thin, even layers. Allow each layer to settle and dry before adding more. Use a lighter application over fine detail, drawing, transfers, and textured passages so definition remains clear.

What to expect
Ceramic Coat helps bring clay, pigment, image, and surface work into greater continuity. Final appearance varies with surface preparation, application, number of coats, and the materials beneath it. The goal is controlled build—not a heavy pour.

Relationship to Gloss Top Coat
Ceramic Coat builds, hardens, and unifies the ceramic layer. Gloss Top Coat follows only when greater clarity, depth, or a more glaze-inspired finish is desired. Ceramic Coat can remain as the final visible surface when a quieter ceramic result is preferred.

Best for
Jewelry, ornaments, small thrown forms, reliefs, tiles, panels, image-bearing surfaces, and detailed objects where surface continuity, edge refinement, and a hard ceramic finish matter.

Thoughtful limits
Ceramic Coat is not a thick resin pour, waterproof functional glaze, or substitute for fired ceramic. Heavy application can soften detail, trap bubbles, create drips, or reduce clarity. Test unfamiliar media before coating an important piece and allow the surface to dry and cure fully before heavy handling or adding Gloss Top Coat.
